THE Penang government remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting a harmonious and patriotic community by actively encouraging a range of youth activities.
State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi noted the enduring role of the Scouts as a means to help the state achieve this goal.
“I am committed to understanding and solving the problems facing youth organisations. This is important to resolve any issues that may hinder their progress.
“The state has undertaken various initiatives to produce smart and healthy youths. The Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) has also been at the forefront of organising a wide array of activities to facilitate youth development.
“I also wish to express my gratitude to the Scouts Association of Malaysia Penang for their support in realising Scouts’ activities all this while,” he said in his speech during the Scouts’ awards ceremony in Bukit Mertajam on Saturday.
Gooi said the Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) and Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI) are the two biggest scouting events in the world.
“We can witness various activities that have been taking place, which include cooking competitions, marching, and using radio and internet to connect with Scouts from various locations,” he added.
Earlier, Gooi presented the King Scout Badge to 19 Scouts while six Scout of The World Award (SWA) badges were given out as well.
Among those present were Penang Scouts Association commissioner Datuk Zulkafli Kamaruddin, and other Scouts’ representatives.
