THE Penang DAP will discuss seat allocation with other Pakatan Harapan parties at an appropriate time.
Its chairman Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the Chief Minister, said while the Penang DAP is still in the process of interviewing its potential candidates for the 15th General Election, the seat allocation issue needed some time to resolve as PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) has seen some leadership changes.
He was responding to a question by a reporter who wanted an update on the situation since the Penang Pakatan Harapan secretary had issued a notice to its component parties, urging them to submit their proposals regarding seat allocation of the respective component parties.
On the question of fielding 30% of women’s candidates, Chow said although that was the state’s goal, it does not have that number yet.
“We will have mixed candidates. We are still discussing, and we won’t announce them,” Chow said.
A few days ago, Chow revealed that the Penang DAP had received more than 30 new names nominated by the respective state party branches, excluding the incumbents.
He said after the panel of selectors had met the proposed candidates, they would listen to the incumbents.
Chow stressed that they want to give confidence to the rakyat that they are a government that can be trusted to provide the best services for the state’s socio-economic development.
