During the earlier meeting, the Speakers exchanged insights on their roles, focusing on reform agendas implemented in Penang and Selangor.

They also discussed key issues raised during the Parliament and State Legislative Assembly Speakers’ Conference held in Sarawak last year.

Lau highlighted the importance of inter-state collaboration, emphasising the need to learn from each other’s successes.

“Some states are excelling in certain areas, and we are open to sharing experiences to improve governance and public service.

“This visit marks my second to Penang in two years, and I look forward to more assemblyman exchanges and visits to other states,” he said.

Lau also praised Penang’s innovative approach to embracing arts and culture.

In December 2023, part of the Penang Legislative Assembly building was transformed into an art exhibition hall to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Penang Hill Railway.

The Selangor Speaker praised the idea, expressing interest in adopting similar initiatives in Selangor to promote cultural appreciation and community involvement.

Both Speakers agreed on the importance of fostering closer relationships between their assemblies and pledged to encourage more interactions in the future.

During his courtesy call on Chow, Lau shared his insights and suggestions, stressing the value of collaboration between states.

“This visit not only strengthens the bond between our assemblies but also creates opportunities to exchange ideas on how we can better serve our communities.

“We are eager to explore and implement some of these ideas in Selangor and look forward to Penang’s continued success,” Lau concluded.
