“The doctors and nurses have been working tirelessly since the pandemic hit us over a year ago.

“We want to show that we recognise and appreciate the sacrifices of our frontline heroes. We saw the urgent need to join in the fight against Covid-19 and therefore, we initiated the programme to help our frontliners.

“We managed to contribute 5,000 PPE gowns while JCI Bayan contributed 674 units,

“The contribution is valued at RM28,370.

“A total of 5,000 PPE gowns have been delivered to the Penang Hospital on July 1,” he said during a symbolic handover ceremony in Komtar today.

“We are in a more critical situation than before. Our frontliners are working so hard to prevent the spread of the infection.

“The Penang government appreciates the efforts by the non-governmental organisations and individuals. They came forward to support our frontliners.

“The state also records its appreciation to the Penang Health Department and the various medical bodies for rising up to the challenge to ensure that we are able to provide adequate facilities to cater the needs of the people during this pandemic.

“From the frontliners right up to those at the back end (performing analysis and so on), we thank you,” Chow said.

Chow said the Penang Health Department is doing everything it could to mobilise resources and to ensure that the healthcare system in Penang would not collapse.

“Let us play our part to break the infection chain,” he added.

Also present were JCI Bayan president Kenny Hing, Lions Club of George Town treasurer Por Chun Hau and Penang Hospital infectious disease consultant Dr Chow Ting Soo.
