HAVING drawn four out of 10 games they have played so far in the Super League, the Penang Football Club (PFC) have been encouraged to go for victories from now on. They have one more match to go before the completion of the first round league.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said he would like to see more victories as Penang prepare to travel to Terengganu for their match on May 1 at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium.
Newly-promoted Penang are currently lying in fourth place in the 12-team league with 19 points (5 wins, 4 draws, 1 loss), behind JDT (23 points), Terengganu (21) and Kedah (20).
“We’re the new kid on the block. To remain in Super League and not drop back to Premier League is our first mission,” Chow said in reply to a reporter’s question of his expectations of the Penang FC when he was attending the Penang State Sports Council Sports Scholarships and Education Incentives presentation ceremony at a hotel in George Town last night.
“We’ve set a top six target for the team. You get three points from three draws and three points from one win, thus I would like to see more wins.
“I would say that Penang played one of their best games last Saturday when they beat Sri Pahang FC 3-0.
“Even without the services of two influential players like Anselmo Da Silva dan Ryuji Utomo, the coach (Thomas Trucha) was able to reorganise the team and they played with good teamwork.”
He said the team was rewarded with a bonus of RM10,000 for the players to share for each win as an incentive.
Also present were state Sports and Youth Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee and Penang FC executive director Datuk Dr Amar Pritpal Abdullah.
