PENANG continues to lead in the tourism industry, with seven tourist attractions in the state being honoured with the Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance (MyTQA) certification in George Town yesterday.

The award ceremony, held at The TOP Komtar on Nov 29, saw tourism products recognised across three categories.

The Straits and Oriental Museum, Magic World, Ghost Museum and Taman Herba Bertam received the silver category certification.

Meanwhile, Sunway Carnival Mall and Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm bagged the gold award each, while Penang Hill received the prestigious platinum award.

MyTQA is an initiative by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac).

Motac Industry Development Division senior assistant secretary Mohd Sufirdaus Suliman said MyTQA is committed to improving the quality of tourism products throughout the country to satisfy and fulfil the desire of the tourists.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that these attractions, that are MyTQA certified, are protected and continue to deliver the best possible experience for the visitors,” Sufirdaus said in his speech during the brief award ceremony.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, who stood in for Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, later presented the certificates to the representatives from the seven attraction spots.
