AS Christmas approaches, the ‘Gift A Child, Gift A Smile Donation Project’ offers a meaningful way to celebrate the season by sharing our blessings and spreading joy within the community.
A collaborative initiative involving the Komtar service centre, Jalan Irving Village Community Management Council (MPKK), 1st Avenue Mall, and local company Show Maker, the project invites public participation in contributing Christmas gifts from Nov 26 to Dec 23.
Jalan Irving MPKK secretary Kenny Ng outlined the process, stating that the gifts collected during this period would be presented to children at the Salvation Army.
“We hope the public will wholeheartedly support our programme and contribute to bringing joy to the children at the Salvation Army.
“As of now, the Salvation Army is part of our project. If we receive overwhelming support, we are open to extending our blessings to other charitable organisations,” he said at 1st Avenue Mall today.
Ng encouraged well-wishers to drop off their gifts at the ground floor reception counter at 1st Avenue Mall during the designated period.
It is learned that the gifts should be unwrapped and unopened as well as advised to avoid gifts like clothes and snacks.

The project’s launch featured Komtar assemblymen Teh Lai Heng, who initiated the programme.
He highlighted the inclusivity of the initiative, explaining that the gifts are intended for newborns to teenagers.
Representatives from 1st Avenue Mall and Show Maker, Joanne Ooi (assistant marketing manager) and Zack Wong (director), expressed their aspirations for the project to bring joy and hope to recipients during the Christmas season, embodying the true spirit of the occasion.
Jalan Irving MPKK committee member Amutha Krishnan was also present at the launch.
