SEVERAL promotional activities which were announced by the Penang government since the ban on inter-state travel was lifted have been seeing positive response amongst local holidaymakers.
The state’s tourism, which was one of the top contributors to the state’s coffers before the movement control order was imposed on March 18, was virtually paralysed by the Covid-19 pandemic. But with the reopening of the state borders recently, domestic tourism in Penang is buzzing once again.
Buletin Mutiara today interviewed some of the travel enthusiasts for choosing Penang as their holiday destination. Below are their comments:
Neesha Sangara Narayanan, 35 (writer), Kuala Lumpur
“I have always been a huge fan of heritage hotels in Penang. The hotels not only provide great hospitality and facilities, but also there is always something new to learn from these beautifully preserved buildings.
“I’m truly excited to be back in Penang, my most favourite interstate holiday destination after almost three months. I am just going to have a wonderful time enjoying the irresistibly delicious food and amazing tourist attractions.”
Angela Theseira, 39 (business owner), Melaka
“Penang is like my second home because it’s just wonderful how a state can attract a person based on various aspects such as food, entertainment, international festivals and the beautiful architectural buildings.
“My kids really enjoy the beautiful beaches in Penang; therefore, my husband and I always make it a point to bring them down during the school holidays.
“I would like to thank the Penang government for introducing some really good hotels and tourist attraction deals because as a frequent traveller to the state, the offers are useful.”
Puteri Sherina, 39 (senior manager), Kuala Lumpur
“Penang is doing exceptionally well, especially when the state has introduced some really cool travel deals ever since inter-state travel was given the green light. Knowing the state’s popularity in terms of food, hotels, mind-blowing heritage buildings and beaches, it is great how the state authorities reacted with an action plan to revive the tourism sector during this Covid-19 pandemic.
“Finally, I can enjoy my favourite mouth-watering meals at Kayu Nasi Kandar that serves one of the best fried chickens ever.”
State Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin had previously launched a website known as ‘Penang Travel Deals,’ which is part of the state’s effort to revive the economy.
The website consists of best hotels and exciting attractions in Penang, whereby it had its first campaign launched known as ‘Jom! Experience Penang’.
