OVER 10,000 participants took their time off this Sunday morning by taking part in the ‘Love Penang Run’ in Beach Street, George Town.
People from all walks of life, including families and friends, enjoyed the 5km walk in the scenic town centre.
The event, which started at 7am, resumed after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Apart from taking the event as a form of exercise, many of them also joined in to express their love for Penang.
It was held by the Penang government, and co-organised by the Penang State Sports Council and Penang Forward Sports Club.
Some of the participants were seen taking photographs with their family members and friends along the route that often draws a lot of tourists as it is in the Unesco World Heritage Site. The state is endowed with unique multicultural heritage and buildings.
The 5km route covered Beach Street, Chulia Street, Love Lane, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Farquhar Street, Lebuh Light, Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling and Lebuh China before ending at the starting point in Lebuh Pantai.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who flagged off the event, thanked the participants for taking part in the event.
He too joined the walk, together with state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, Senator Lim Hui Ying, state assemblymen, Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, Penang State Sports Council director Harry Chai, and Penang Forward Sports Club chairman Lim Choo Hooi.
