HE is not new when it comes to community work as his father and forefathers were active individuals who contributed so much to the people.

Santok Singh Ranjit Singh, 59, who has served in the banking industry for 30 years, has been honoured with the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which carries the title Dato’, for his active participation in social work over the years.

Santok, who is also the Wadda Gurdwara Sahib president, was overwhelmed after receiving the award, calling it a testament to his commitment and dedication to serving the community.

“I guess it has been in my blood because my father and forefathers were heavily involved in community work. I am proud to be able to do the same, at least in the small ways that I can for needy groups in Penang.

‘I regard this investiture ceremony as a very important one as it will further drive the recipients to motivate the younger generation, emphasising the importance of giving back to the community.

“This award gives me a lot of joy, and an opportunity to contribute even more than what I have been doing for the people,” Santok told Buletin Mutiara at the investiture ceremony in conjunction with the 75th birthday of Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak at Dewan Sri Pinang today.

A total of 351 individuals were conferred various medals, honours and awards at the ceremony, which concluded at about 12pm today.

Santok is active in advancing programmes relating to senior citizens, emphasising the need for such initiatives as Penang becomes an ageing state.
