SJK (C) Min Sin’s Tunas Kadet Remaja Sekolah (TKRS), which achieved a series of accolades last year, is looking forward to representing Penang at the national competition in Melaka this year.
Speaking at a media conference at the school yesterday (Dec 31), teacher-in-charge Ang Aik Fung shared the team’s aspirations to excel in the national marching competition.
“We are the only Chinese school in Penang competing, and we hope to achieve excellent results,” Ang said.
Reflecting on the team’s achievements in 2024, Ang highlighted how the TKRS has consistently exceeded expectations under his guidance.
“Since our establishment in 2018, we have proven that hard work and perseverance pay off.
“Last week, we were crowned overall champions at the Penang Red Crescent Society’s marching competition, where we also secured third place in the primary school category and won the prestigious Best Commander Award.
“In addition, we were champions in the National Day Parade (Uniform Movement) marching competition at the Esplanade last year. Our TKRS team also claimed double championships in the state’s Uniform Group Marching Competition at the primary school level,” he said.
Headmaster Lim Yin Chao emphasised the significance of TKRS in nurturing core values such as discipline, grit, and perseverance among its 120 members.
“These values cannot be taught in classrooms or found in textbooks, but they can be cultivated through participation in uniform groups. TKRS also helps to enhance soft skills and social values, preparing students for real-life challenges,” Lim said.
Lim added that an appreciation dinner will be held at the school this Saturday to honour the dedication of pupils and parents throughout the past year.
