SJK(C) Jelutong ‘A’ clinched the overall championship title at the 4th Penang Chief Minister’s Cup Interschool Table Tennis Championship, held at the Penang Table Tennis Association (PTTA) Training Centre at Macallum Street Ghaut in George Town over the weekend.
The Girls’ Under-10 champions secured the overall title after narrowly edging out Boys’ Under-10 champions, SJK(C) Pei Yu ‘A’, based on a superior points difference, as both teams were tied on games.
Both teams were in top form, sweeping all their matches from the quarter-finals to the final with 2-0 victories, each dropping only a single game. However, SJK(C) Jelutong ‘A’ prevailed with a points difference of 66 to 29 (2.27), while SJK(C) Pei Yu ‘A’ finished with a points difference of 66 to 34 (1.94), making SJK(C) Jelutong ‘A’ the ultimate overall champion.
Sponsored by the Penang Chief Minister’s Office and organised by the PTTA, the event saw participation from 264 teams, with 635 participants representing 73 schools. The tournament was also supported by the Penang Education Department.
Six categories were contested: Boys and Girls Under-10; Boys and Girls Under-12 and Boys and Girls Under-15.
In the Boys’ Under-10 final, SJK(C) Pei Yu ‘A’ triumphed over SJK(C) Boon Beng 2-0, while SJK(C) Jelutong secured third place with a 2-0 victory over SJK(C) Chung Shan ‘A’.
In the Girls’ Under-10 final, SJK(C) Jelutong ‘A’ took the title by defeating SJK(C) Perempuan 2-0, with SJK(C) Kai Chee ‘A’ claiming third place after a 2-1 win over SJK(C) Li Hwa.
In the Boys’ Under-12 category, SJK(C) Perempuan Cina ‘A’ edged out SJK(C) Kim Sen 2-1 in the final, while SJK(C) Hun Bin ‘A’ secured third place with a 2-0 victory over SJK(C) Li Hwa ‘B’.
SJK(C) Kai Chee took home the Girls’ Under-12 title, defeating SJK(C) Li Hwa 2-0 in the final. SJK(C) Boon Beng finished third after beating SJK(C) Peng Bin ‘A’ 2-0.
In the Boys’ Under-15 final, SMJK Chung Hwa Confucian claimed the title by edging out SMJK Jit Sin ‘B’ 2-1, with SMJK Chung Ling ‘A’ securing third place by defeating SMJK Jit Sin ‘A’ 2-0.
The Girls’ Under-15 title was won by SM Chung Ling Private ‘A’, who overcame SMJK Jit Sin ‘A’ 2-1 in the final, while Uplands International School claimed third place with a 2-1 victory over SMJK Union ‘A’.
