PARTICIPATING in the annual state-level National Day Parade (Uniform Movement) marching competition at the Esplanade on Aug 31 for the first time, SJKC Min Sin’s Tunas Kadet Remaja Sekolah (TKRS) achieved a remarkable victory.
Upon joining the parade, the TKRS members, teachers, and parents had not anticipated such an achievement, but they emerged as champions in the competition.
Comprising 93 pupils, seven parents, the headmaster, and the teacher-in-charge, SJK (C) Min Sin’s TKRS overcame several challenges to claim the top spot at the end of the day.
Established in 2017 with only a handful of students, the TKRS has grown into a prominent uniform movement at the school in Bukit Jambul. Under the guidance of teacher-in-charge Ang Aik Fung, the group has transformed and garnered numerous accolades over the years.
“We did not expect to emerge champions, especially when we were up against stiff competition from other secondary schools in the state.
“Our perseverance, persistence, and discipline were key factors that led to our success. All the young heroes and heroines were the pillars of this accomplishment. We couldn’t have achieved this without their sacrifices and the unwavering support of their parents,” Ang said during an interview at the school today.
Reflecting on the recipe for their success, Ang mentioned that he had faith in his entire platoon, encouraging them to give their best during the competition.
“I didn’t put any pressure on them; instead, I motivated them and ensured their formation was executed effectively. I sincerely thank the headmaster, parents, and everyone who has supported us along the way,” he said.
Out of the 14 teams that participated, Ang praised his team for their determination, highlighting the strong mentality of the TKRS members.
He shared that their marching routine was held frequently, especially when marching competition was around the corner.
He shared that the team had held frequent marching drills, especially in the lead-up to the competition. “This required discipline and grit from everyone,” he added, expressing his gratitude.
Looking ahead, Ang hopes that his team members will be selected to compete in a national marching competition in Melaka this November, although the final decision will rest with the competition’s panellists.
Also present during the interview were Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman Lee Zheng Yong, headmaster Lim Yin Chao, and parent representative Joey Wong.
