THE upgrading project to replace the dilapidated multipurpose hall at SMK Valdor in Batu Kawan has been successfully completed.
A launching ceremony, officiated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the Batu Kawan MP, took place at the school today.
SMK Valdor principal Lee Keng Hong said the hall, with a seating capacity for hundreds of students, is fully air-conditioned.
“The upgrading project started in September this year and was fully completed at the end of October.
“It is equipped with glass doors and windows, 22 units of LED lights, a mosaic floor, a stage, four units of exhaust fans and one PA system room.
“We would like to thank YAB Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow for funding the upgrading project that cost RM100,000.
“This multipurpose hall is important because it will be a venue to carry out educational activities such as motivational programmes, study seminars, examination clinics and others. It can also be turned into a temporary relief centre (PPS) during floods.
“The hall can also be used to enhance ties between pupils, teachers and parents as well as a centre for sports and other healthy activities,” said Lee in his speech.
Chow, in his speech, said it is the state government’s responsibility to ensure that students study in a conducive environment.
“This is important so that they can excel in their academics. So, we must ensure that all the infrastructure and facilities in the school are well maintained.
“I would like to emphasise that this upgrading project also symbolises the Penang government’s commitment to education development in the state.
“May this new upgraded multipurpose hall become a place to learn, inspire thoughtful ideas and foster enthusiasm to achieve excellence in various aspects,” he said.
Also present during the launching ceremony were Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, SMK Valdor PIBG (Parents and Teachers Association) chairman Khor Huey Ling and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillors Heng Yeh Shiuan, Ngoh Cheng Hai and Rachel Teh Chuann Yien.
