THE pipe replacement project, undertaken by Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) in Taman Traffic, George Town, has reached 92% completion, according to Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng.

He shared this positive update with attendees at the Taman Traffic Chinese New Year open house at the Taman Traffic Garden today.

“On March 1st, PBAPP, in collaboration with our city council, had already completed the first stage of ‘Coring Test’ and is now moving to second stage.

“Once that is done, they will repave the roads affected by the project. We expect all work to be completed by the end of this month.

“The newly laid pipe is larger and can withstand higher water pressure. This should resolve the water pressure issue affecting Taman Traffic.

“However, old PBA pipes are not the only reason that could cause low water pressure issues. If you feel like the water pressure in your house is still low, you are advised to check your piping. If necessary, replace the aged pipes that may be over 50 years,” Teh said in his speech at the CNY open house celebration.

Just before the start of the event, Teh took part in a training session on utilising an automated external defibrillator (AED) following a demonstration by UMediC Healthcare business leader Ng Kah Boon. The AED, funded by Teh, is being placed inside the Taman Traffic Garden.

“There are many people who come here to exercise. If someone suffers a heart attack, having an AED nearby, could greatly increase the chance of that person being saved,” he explained.

Over the past decade, Teh has done a lot for the community through the implementation of many transformative projects and upgrades within his constituency.

His initiatives include the establishment of the first Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) inside Komtar, injecting new life into Komtar Walk, modernising the old Anson Market Food Court, expanding the Padang Brown Food Court, and improving the drainage system around Komtar.

He was also involved with the establishment of a transit home or temporary shelter for the homeless in Jalan C.Y. Choy, in collaboration with government bodies and non-governmental organisations.

Also present were Deputy Finance Minister and Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, Penang Island City Council councillor Benji Ang, MPKK Taman Traffic chairman Ong Lin Teong and treasurer Teoh Shaw Jhee, and JPWK secretary Janice Wong.

Lim said she was delighted to see a good turn at the beautiful garden, noting that the day marked the last day of the first month of the Lunar calendar.

She took the opportunity to advise all to keep hydrated during the ongoing hot spell in Penang.

“It is also important to stay healthy and fit. So, watch your diet and do some exercise,” she urged the attendees.

Later, Lim, together with Teh and Wong, presented ang pows to guests from Cheshire Home Penang. Lim also handed out flowers to the women, who celebrated International Women’s Day a day earlier.
