Smooth traffic at the expressway

THE traffic in Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway is smooth this morning (March 29).

 

Fewer vehicles were seen on the expressway as at 9am today.

 

At a roadblock, officer-in-charge from the northeast district police headquarters Insp Abd Basir Hashim said the traffic situation was evaluated on a scale of one to five based on the congestion level (one being low and five being high).

“The traffic situation this morning is a ‘one’.

 

“Traffic congestion at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway can reach a ‘five’ during peak hours, on a normal working day. We have seen traffic jams stretched up to 500m or 1km long,” he told Buletin Mutiara today.

 

Insp Abd Basir said the movement control order (MCO) compliance rate in the northeast district was 95%.

“The police have also beefed up their enforcement. We have arrested some 30 people for disobeying the MCO in the northeast district yesterday (March 28).

 

“The public are more aware of the need to obey the MCO. It is for the benefit of everyone,” he said.

 

Meanwhile, the situation at Tesco Hypermarket Penang in Tengku Kudin was great and orderly.

 

Several staff were stationed to ensure that shoppers observe social distancing. The shoppers also had to undergo body temperature screening before entering the hypermarket.
