THE Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia has promptly responded to the request for help and has donated 3,000 isolation gowns to aid the frontliners at the Field ICU in Kepala Batas Hospital.

Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia commissioner Khoo Boo Leong said the society received a call this morning; and it had decided to offer its assistance immediately.

“We must appreciate the frontliners who are doing their best to curb the Covid-19 infection.

“They need our backing, and it is important for us to support them if we have the resources,” he said after presenting the isolation gowns to the frontliners today.

The Field ICU, which is being jointly set up by the Health Ministry and the Malaysian Armed Forces, will provide an additional 27 ICU beds in Penang.

Penang Health Department director Datuk Dr Asmayani Khalib was quoted as saying that Penang was in dire need of a Field ICU, after ICU bed occupancy in hospitals reached 100% on May 11.

The Field ICU is scheduled to operate from May 22.
