ABOUT 40% of the 120,000 affected households in the southwest district on Penang island have had their water supply restored, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced today.
In response to Buletin Mutiara’s inquiry about progress following the leaked pipe in Sungai Perai, Chow mentioned that the recovery process is on schedule.
“It takes time, and the water restoration now stands at 40% for the affected accounts in the southwest district,” he stated after attending the Excellence Award Ceremony for Year Six and Pre-School pupils at SK Taman Merak, Simpang Ampat today.
Chow visited the Sungai Perai site yesterday (Jan 26) and confirmed that the repair works to re-clamp the underwater pipeline had been completed.
The preparations for commissioning two new 600mm pipelines to replace the Sungai Perai underwater pipeline are in the final stage.
