THE Penang government recognises the pivotal role of education and the development of a skilled workforce, particularly in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

As a state renowned for its prowess in the production of electrical and electronic products, Penang stands at the forefront of innovation and technological advancement.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, speaking at the flag-off ceremony today for Penang’s contingent to Malaysia Techlympic 2023 National Final in Putrajaya, expressed pride in sponsoring transportation for the winning schools for the second successive year.

The grand finals for the event will take place tomorrow (Nov 19) and end on Monday (Nov 20).

The students express their gratitude to Chow for his support

Chow said he looked forward to exciting performances from the Penang contingent at the flag-off ceremony at Komtar Walk this morning.

“I am pleased that this marks the second consecutive year in which the state proudly sponsors transportation for all the winning schools to Putrajaya.

“We aim to facilitate the participation of Penang contingent comprising 300 participants from 22 schools and three higher institutions, including both teachers and students,” he said.

Chow also emphasised the importannce of human capital in the industry.

Tech Dome chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi and his staff were also present at the ceremony.

The 22 schools and three higher institutions that will participate in the national event are as follows:

SMK Dato Kailan, SMK Simpang Empat, SJK (C) Keng Koon, SJK (C) Kwang Hwa, SJK (C) Li Tek Cawangan, SJK (C) True Light, SK Convent Butterworth, SK Desa Murni, SK Mutiara Perdana, SK Seri Penanti, SK Stowell, SK Sungai Dua, SK Sungai Nibong, SMKA (L) Al-Mashoor, SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth, SMK Datuk Haji Ahmad Badawi, SMJK Heng Ee, SMK Penanti, SMK Permai Indah, SMJK Phor Thay, SMK Telok Kumbar, SM Sains Tun Syed Sheh Shabuddin, Institusi Pendidikan Guru Kampus Pulau Pinang, Institusi Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tuanku Bainun, Politeknik Seberang Perai.
