A TOTAL of 150 banners will be put up in stages by the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) in every location that is considered as hotspots for illegal dumping on the mainland.

MBSP councillor David Marshel said the ‘special banners’ contained a strong message with the sole purpose to educate the people in the area to stop illegal dumping.

“The move is also part of the council’s efforts to combat illegal dumping and environmental pollution in Seberang Perai.

“Each banner comprises of three languages, namely, Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin and Tamil.

“The banner telling the public that ‘Only fools will throw rubbish everywhere!’ (Orang bodoh sahaja yang akan membuang sampah di merata-rata tempat!).

“So far, we have printed 144 banners and the remaining will be printed soon. We expect to finish putting up all the banners by next week,” Marshel told reporters after putting up one of the banners at Jalan Kikik in Taman Inderawasih, Prai today.

Also present was MBSP councillor Jason Raj.

Marshel hoped that the banners would instil civic consciousness among the wrong-doers in Seberang Perai.

“Our main objective is to address illegal dumping and littering.

“MBSP will not hesitate to take stern action against those who are involved in illegal dumping, including issuing them with a RM2,000 compound.

“The society must practise good social behaviour.

“After all, we want Seberang Perai to remain clean, safe and healthy,” he added.
