THE sister-city relationship between George Town and Adelaide is set to be further strengthened with an introduction of a 50th-anniversary logo.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said both cities are committed to enhancing cooperation in the fields of trade, education, and tourism.

“We are committed to ensuring that George Town continues to be a smart city that attracts tourists and investors.

“The sister city relationship not only strengthens cooperation between George Town and Adelaide but also fosters collaboration between the state and other cities as well internationally.

“In fact, the Penang Global Tourism (PGT) has launched various promotional activities in Adelaide, leading to an increased influx of tourists from Australia to Penang, and vice-versa,” he said in his speech during the announcement of the logo competition winners at City Hall, Esplanade today.

Lim Soon Tatt emerged as the winner and bagged RM5,000; Hoi Yoke Eng finished second and bagged RM3,000 while Lee Thui San came in third and bagged RM2,000.

The competition was organised by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and the state Tourism and Creative Economy office.

MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the council received an overwhelming response to the competition.

“This competition, open from April to May this year, drew 33 applications.

“Out of 33 participants, 31 are Malaysians, one is Australian, and one Penang resident currently residing in Adelaide,” he said.
