THE Kebun Bunga constitutency’s Chinese New Year open house yesterday saw a multi-racial crowd attending the event to celebrate the Year of the Rat.
Although the event was scheduled to start at 6.30pm, the crowd had started to throng the venue at SK Padang Tembak an hour earlier.
Hosted by Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong Khan Lee, the event was graced by none other than Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The locals from the neighbourhood cheered upon the arrival of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president and many took advantage of his presence to have photos taken with him.
The crowd was entertained by a local troupe who put on a lion dance performance.
In his speech, Anwar emphasised the importance of looking into the needs of the people in every constituency.
He said welfare of the constituents must be looked into at all times.
“The state has done its part on this.
“Remember, don’t forget the constituents but remain commited to serving them,” he said before wishing those present a prosperous year.
Those present feasted on a sumptuous buffet spread of local delights.
Anwar also took part in the ‘yee sang’ tossing ceremony after his speech.
Joining him at the open house were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai, Ong and state police chief Datuk T. Narenasagaran.
