IN view of the Chinese New Year celebration on Feb 1, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today brought cheer to the needy folk, two children’s homes and an old folks’ home in the Padang Kota constituency.
He handed a total of 200 food packs, comprising a can of sardine, rice, face masks, an orange, as well as angpows, to the needy folk at the Pusat Kawan in Klang Street, George Town.
On top of that, Chow distributed 130 food containers with dishes to The Salvation Army Penang Children’s Home in Logan Road, St Joseph’s Home in Penang Road and Evershine Old Folks’ Home in Kedah Road.
He also donated RM5,000 each to Pusat Kawan, The Salvation Army Penang Children’s Home, St Joseph’s Home and Evershine Old Folks’ Home.
Chow, who is also the Padang Kota assemblyman and Tanjong MP, said it was important to show care to the less fortunate during the festive season.
“It is one of our ways to show our concern to the community.
“We are using this opportunity to share the joy of Chinese New Year as there will be no open house this year due to Covid-19 pandemic.
“Hence, I hope that they can feel the festive joy as well,” he told Buletin Mutiara after handing over food packs to the needy at Pusat Kawan in Klang Street, George Town this morning.
Among those present at the food aid distribution event were Lau Keng Ee, who is Chow’s special affairs officer in Padang Kota, The Salvation Army Penang Children’s Home assistant manager Becky Anak Laurence, St Joseph’s Home board member Iruthaya Das and Evershine Old Folks’ Home person-in-charge U.
