THE Penang government has approved a total of RM22.25 million to carry out various maintenance works on eligible housing schemes in the state this year.
State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the allocation shows that the state government remains committed to assisting eligible housing schemes in the state that require facility maintenance assistance.
“The RM22.25 million is for the ‘Peruntukan Pembangunan Kerajaan’ (RM8.95 million), ‘Peruntukan Amanah Penyelenggaraan’ (RM6.5 million) and Penang Maximum 80% Housing Maintenance Fund (TPM80PP) with the amount of RM6.8 million.
“Such allocation is crucial for the people to live properly if there are some critical issues that need to be addressed, such as lift maintenance, water tanks and other related matters.
“And we will continue to implement such initiatives,” Jagdeep told a press conference during his visit to the Taman Jelutong Jaya Apartment in Jelutong today.
On his visit, Jagdeep announced that the state has also approved the TPM80PP application by Taman Jelutong Jaya Apartment.
“It is for the upgrading of two units of lifts at Block 3 at the apartment.
“Because of its frequent malfunctioning, it has inconvenienced the residents here.
“The total cost of the maintenance work is RM290,000 and the state has agreed to bear 80% of the total cost.
“We are happy that the management corporation of the housing scheme is willing to bear the remaining 20%,” Jagdeep said.
Jagdeep said the state would continue to aid other housing schemes in the state.
“The Penang government has various housing maintenance funds and programmes to assist eligible housing schemes in need.
“We had spent about RM290.55 million to assist various maintenance projects for eligible housing schemes, from 2008 until Jan 25 this year,” he said.
