THE Penang government has allocated RM10,000 each to 36 active volunteer fire brigades across the state, amounting to a total of RM360,000.

State Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye presented the mock cheques during a ceremony at the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) headquarters in Bukit Mertajam today.

Speaking at the event, H’ng said the funding underscores the state’s recognition of the vital role played by volunteer fire brigades during emergencies and disasters.

“In fact, I had requested this funding from Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow around November last year, and it was subsequently approved.

“The Chief Minister noted the needs and wants of the volunteer fire bridges. Therefore, I believe this fund will be fully utilised by all volunteer fire brigades in Penang,” he said.

H’ng highlighted that the financial support is a continuation of the state’s efforts to alleviate the burdens faced by these frontliners, following a similar initiative in 2022.

He reiterated that the state would prioritise the welfare of the frontliners to ensure their needs are taken care of.

Also present were Local Government Division secretary Muhamad Husni Mahmud and Penang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Endi Sherimi Mohd Azmi.
