THE Penang government is hoping that the proposed 2,700 units of People’s Housing Project (PPR) would gain approval from Federal Government.

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the units proposed are to be located at all the five districts in the state.

He said the state had already identified the five places for the PPR projects in 2018. They are in Jelutong, Bayan Baru, Ujung Batu (Butterworth), Kampung Tongkang (Bukit Mertajam) and Batu Kawan.

“A total of 800 units are proposed in Jelutong, 400 units in Bayan Baru, 450 units in Ujung Batu, 600 units in Kampung Tongkang and another 450 units in Batu Kawan.

“The total land size for the five plots is 72.3 acres.

“We hope that this proposal will receive green light at the federal level as there are a total of only 999 PPR homes in the state out of the 120,000 PPR units in the country,” he told a press conference in Bukit Gedung today.

Jagdeep added that the state was looking forward to receiving a fruitful response from the Urban, Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry.

“We having been hoping for a positive response after the ministry’s officers visitation to some of the proposed sites,”he said.

Also present was state Housing Department director Ainul Fadhilah Samsudi.
