AS the nation adjusts to the new normal in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Penang government continues to show its support towards the creative industry by launching the state’s first creative economy e-commerce live streaming event ‘The Journey of Art – A Shelter for Artists’.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the event was aimed to assist local talents in the creative economy sector to transition their businesses from physical stores to digital platforms, and thus overcome problems and limitations caused by the closure of borders.
“This is exceptionally important because we need to embrace and practise digitalisation, especially in the new normal era as a result of the pandemic.
“This event is another important step taken by the Penang government in boosting the creative economy sector whilst reviving the industry from the financial difficulties caused by the pandemic,” said Yeoh during a press conference in Komtar today.
The event is a collaboration between the Penang government, Quinton Group Sdn Bhd, Penang House of Music, Spring Production and Art Studio, and Penang Art District.
Happening from Dec 12 this year to Jan 3 next year, the event that is free, is open to all Penang-born artists, and they can expect a string of virtual showcases, local performances, products and services review, promotions and lucky draw sessions.
As a collaborating partner, Penang House of Music will be the official venue sponsor for the said activities to be conducted.
Quinton Group international business development director Jason Lim said experienced professionals from the company would be selected to conduct the activities accordingly.
“With the series of empowerment programmes lined up for the event, we at Quinton Group are truly positive that the creative economy sector has a strong potential to transform into an economic powerhouse for the state,” he said.
Founded in August 2018, Quinton Group is an award-winning internet platform of local life service in Malaysia with a goal to assimilate internet into everyday lives.
