INITIATIVES to tackle the traffic woes on the mainland are currently being worked on via ‘Seberang Perai City Council Strategic Plan 2023-2030’, says state Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.
Zairil (PH-Tanjong Bungah) said the plan would consist of a list of hotspots as well as suggestions for short-term and long-term solutions.
He was replying to an oral question by Goh Choon Aik (PH-Bukit Tambun) during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the State Assembly Building in Light Street today.
“This initiative (plan) will be completed this year and will be tabled at MBSP’s Traffic and Infrastructure Committee meeting.
“It will help the relevant departments or agencies to get suggestions to solve the traffic congestion and to apply for allocations from the state government or the Federal government,” Zairil said.
Meanwhile, Zairil also gave an update on the status of the bypass construction project from Jalan Tasek Mutiara 10 to Hijaun Hills, which will be built by the Public Works Department (PWD).
He said the project is undergoing the land acquisition process.
“Drawings and tender documents have been completed and they will be advertised after the completion of the land acquisition process,” he said.
Zairil also said that the state government welcomes any ideas or constructive criticisms which can help solve the traffic issues.
“Sungai Bakap bypass road is among the new ideas that were suggested. And the PWD has also prepared the project’s estimated cost as well.
“The PWD is in the process of coming up with the paperwork to be submitted to the state government,” he added.
