THE Penang Legislative Assembly has unanimously expressed its full solidarity for the Palestinian people, who have been under constant violations and aggression by the Israeli regime.
Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang made the ruling under provision 34 (viii) of the Standing Order after the assemblymen unanimously voted for the motion without notice, which was tabled by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (PH – Padang Kota).
Chow said Penang’s stance on the Palestinian issue aligns with the sentiments expressed by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak in his opening speech at the State Legislative Assembly sitting last week.
“Even during debating the motion of thanks to the Governor’s speech, many assemblymen, including state executive councillors, have also raised this issue and have stated a firm and clear stance, condemning the Israeli attacks on Gaza in Palestine, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of thousands of civilians, including children.
“Thus, this is the main reason why I tabled this motion. Penang will always stand with the people of Palestine,” he said.
The motion received unanimous support from all assemblymen and no debate session was held regarding the motion.
