THE state government is optimistic that the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) will successfully complete the emergency repair of the damaged Sungai Perai underwater pipeline today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow emphasised the importance of this repair to enable the commencement of the Level Two water restoration.

“Level One restoration has been completed, and its continuity remains unaffected by the Sungai Perai incident. This is due to the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (Sungai Dua WTP), which is efficiently channelling water to Level One restoration users through alternative main pipelines.

“I have been informed that PBAPP is actively working to swiftly complete the emergency repair of Sungai Perai. PBAPP’s chief executive officer K. Pathmanathan is presently on-site overseeing the repair efforts, and there is hope that they can successfully conclude the repairs today,” Chow told Buletin Mutiara after visiting the PPR Bagan Jaya in Bagan Jermal where a static water tank has been stationed.

Chow noted that PBAPP, under the supervision of its chief executive officer K. Pathmanathan, is diligently working on the repairs.

Addressing a different topic, Chief Minister Chow, in response to inquiries about his morning meeting with Energy Transition and Public Utilities deputy minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir at Komtar, revealed that the one-hour discussion centred on various aspects of water management in Penang.

“In Penang, we acknowledge numerous challenges in water management.

“Despite this, the Penang government, working through PBAPP, is dedicated to enhancing the prudence and efficiency of water management, particularly in executing water infrastructure projects.

“Our ultimate goal is to establish Penang as a resilient state in terms of water management,” Chow said.

After visiting PPR Bagan Jaya, Chow inspected water tanks at Pasar Awam Apollo and Mak Mandin Mosque. He was accompanied by Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Syn Tze and Bagan Jermal assemblyman Chee Yeeh Keen.
