THE state government affirms its commitment to safeguarding the public health of its people for the year 2021.
State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo reiterated the government’s stand of prioritising public safety during his visit to the Taman Free School market this morning.
Jagdeep said the public should be concerned with the highest number of Covid-19 cases recorded on Dec 31, 2020.
“A total of 2,525 cases were recorded on the last day of 2020, a record thus far.
“And today as we enter 2021, it is important for us to keep adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) required at public places.
“The state government will continue to be cautious and will do the needful to ensure the safety of public health,” Jagdeep told the media today.
Jagdeep said in order to curb the prevalences of the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccination should also be implemented.
“I welcome the announcement made by our Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during his 2021 New Year address on the nationwide vaccination programme which will be implemented soon.
“According to the prime minister, the cost of the vaccination would be borne by the Federal government and I thank him for the good move.
“Apart from complying with the SOPs, I believe that vaccines would be also instrumental in eradicating the pandemic,” he added.
Jagdeep said nine clusters in Penang, namely Assumption, Rajawali, Bayan, Permatang, Summer, Rengas, Tembaga, Sri Pasir and Intan, have ended, leaving nine remaining, including three new clusters.
Also present during the visit were Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang and Seberang Perai City Council mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud.
