THE Penang government will continue its efforts to ensure that every school in the state is equipped with smartboards, says state Human Capital Development, Science and Technology Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo.
According to Jagdeep, out of 396 schools, 148 still lack smartboards, and the state government is committed to addressing that.
Jagdeep shared this during the second session of the ‘Penang 5G School Digital Library Programme’ at PSC@Bagan Dewan Dato Haji Ahmad Badawi today.
“The state government recognises the value of this initiative.
“We will move forward and act as a facilitator in digitalising education, working closely with all partners, including the Federal government.
“We also want to encourage our students to venture into the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields,” he added.
Jagdeep, who is also the Datuk Keramat assemblyman, thanked the principals who attended the session and affirmed their pivotal role in supporting students in the STEM field.
He also praised 88 Captains for spearheading the ‘Penang 5G School Digital Library Programme’.
88 Captains chairman Datuk Seri Ooi Eng Hock who was also present, urged the selected schools to fully utilise the digital library equipment.
“We have another 40 schools in the queue, and I am glad to hear that the Federal government has started offering additional free Unifi connections to all schools starting this July,” he added.
State Education Department (JPN) representative Saiful Nizam Ramlee encouraged any school lacking digitalisation facilities to approach the department for assistance.
The programme is a joint effort by Penang 88 Captains, YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, SNS Network Technology Bhd, Intel Malaysia, Penang Science Cluster and OCBC Bank Malaysia.
