THE fifth edition of the Penang state-level Family Day celebration will make a return this year.
The yearly state-level Family Day celebration that was held since 2019 is organised by the state government through the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC).
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this year’s celebration will be known as ‘Family Day ❤️Penang 2023’.
Family Day ❤️Penang 2023 will be held on June 11 (Sunday) from 7am to 12 noon at the Sony Recreational Sports Complex in Seberang Jaya.
He said the theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Rise Together ❤️Penang: Safe, Strong, Nurturing’ (Bangkit Bersama ❤️Penang: Selamat, Cekal, Memupuk).
“The theme is considered appropriate with the current situation we are all going through nowadays.
“After all, the theme for this year, including those from previous years, are based on family elements which are in line with the state government’s Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.
“Various exciting activities and programmes also have been lined up for the celebration, which requires the involvement and participation of the whole family.
“Thus, we hope that all Penangites can take this opportunity to strengthen family ties by going to the event,” Chow told a press conference when announcing the event in Komtar today.
Also present were state Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng and PWDC chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng.
Chow added that this year’s celebration has three main objectives.
“The first is to provide a platform for family members to strengthen family ties.
“The second is to close the gap between generations in families and communities.
“And the third is to improve the understanding of the importance of family institutions in the community,” he said.
Chow said the Penang government also will continue to support and provide a safe environment for all families in the state.
“We want to help them to be more resilient to rise from difficult situations and to foster love between family members and at the same time to form a harmonious and prosperous family institution.
“After all, we believe that family not only plays an important role in society but also the development of the state.
“A quality family will encourage the formation of a more responsible, productive and educated society, while contributing to the stability and prosperity of this beloved state,” said Chow.
Chong Eng said among the activities that would be held on that day are free health screenings, handicraft workshop and others.
“Meanwhile, for group activity involving the ‘sukaneka’ activity, the registration fee is RM75. They will get a T-shirt, drawstring beg, cap and goodie bag.
“Every activity that will be held on that day will have a positive impact on family bonds as well as promote the harmonious family in Penang.
“So, let us together take this opportunity to gather with our family members to participate in this celebration,” she said.
