PENANG is looking forward to implementing a rating system for hotels, food outlets and places of interest in its bid to draw tourists to the state.
According to state Tourism, Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, this initiative was still in the planning stage and being reviewed.
He said the rating system would ensure tourists to have an understanding of the popularity of each place.
“So far, no other states have come out with this rating system.
“Through this rating, it will also motivate the businesses and stakeholders to improve themselves.
“We hope this effort will help to boost tourism in the state,” he told a press conference after giving a briefing on the ‘Experience Penang Year (EPY) 2020’ at OMG Hotel in Simpang Ampat today.
Also present was Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik.
In the briefing, Yeoh emphasised the importance to develop mainland, specifically the south Seberang Perai district.
He said the township has been booming with the setting up of Swedish home furnishing store IKEA.
“We want to bring a balance development for both island and mainland,” he added.
