State Speaker encourages youth to step into politics

THE Penang State Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang sees youth as a prominent figure in politics and encourages them to take part in it.

“In this current time, the youth play a pivotal role in politics more than ever. And not only in the upcoming general election with the approval of the Undi 18 but overall, in the governance itself,” Law said when the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce’s Young Enterprise Section paid a courtesy visit on him at the State Legislative Hall in Light Street today.

Law also invited the younger members of the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to visit the State Legislative Hall to get some insights on how the State Legislative Assembly proceedings take place.

“We welcome the NGOs to come over to the assembly house to get to know on how we operate.

“With more knowledge on the structure of the State Legislative Assembly, they will have more readiness in participating in politics and the governance as well.

“Previously, we had received many NGOs as well as student groups.

“So, I encourage the NGOs and youths to come here frequently and learn about the system,” he said.

The delegation from the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce’s Young Enterprise Section was led by its chairman Lee Toong Leon.

During the visit, Law briefed the delegation on the Malaysian political system which consists of three branches, namely the executive, the legislature and the judiciary.

He also shared with them the scenarios of the State Legislative Assembly proceedings.
