THE public should be sensitive enough and refrain from spreading unnecessary rumours about traders in Pulau Tikus Market being infected with Covid-19.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee said he was disappointed with the rumours that was spread by unscrupulous people through text messages.

“In fact, the health authorities have not provided any confirmation nor come out with any details related to the rumours so far.

“Hence, I really hope the people would stop disseminating the message without any valid proof or basis.

“On our part, we have continuously been taking the relevant precautionary measures.

“The market has been sanitised and cleaned frequently while the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) officers are also tasked to ensure everyone is following the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“I call upon everyone to understand the feeling of the traders in the market as many of their rice bowls have been largely affected due to this.

“Please, stop the rumours!” he told reporters after handing over oral care products in SJK (C) Penang Chinese Girls’ High School today.

A total of 737 of toothpaste and toothbrushes were given to the pupils from Year One to Year Four.

Thanks to ProDentalB, the pupils from lower primary would get their new sets of oral care.

Lee emphasised the importance of oral health, especially during young age.

“A proper care is needed for our oral health,” he said.

ProDentalB chairman Jocelyn Ho said the packaging of the oral care products would attract the pupils’ attention.

“Nowadays, many of the kids are prone to sweetened drinks. That’s why, we need to inculcate the importance of taking care of our oral health,” she said.

On a separate note, MBPP councillor Connie Tan said the council would assist a fruit trader in Macalister Road to relocate an appropriate place for his business.

“We will be inviting him for an interview session by the council at the City Hall, Esplanade. It begins today until April 18.

“There are a total of 222 stalls at 34 various locations for the public to apply for,” she said.
