THE Phase Two of the Bayan Baru Walkable City project has been completed, and Phase Three will be implemented later this year, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said.
“Once completed, the three phases would provide 10km of pedestrian walkway for the people to walk to their destination in Bayan Baru with ease.
“The people can walk to Sunshine Square or Giant Bayan Baru Hypermarket to get groceries or food.
“They can also avoid traffic congestion on the road while staying healthy.
“Those working in the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zones (FIZ) can also easily walk to work after the project is completed.
“Alternatively, the public can opt for cycling or using the e-scooter to commute,” he said in his speech before taking part in the Malaysia Madani Walk 2023 at Taman Sunway Tunas this morning.
Sim said the Bayan Baru Walkable City project was aimed at connecting homes to public transport locations.
He attributed Penang’s success to the good leadership of the current Federal and state governments.
“We need good leaders for us to move forward. Lend your support to our Prime Minister, (caretaker) Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, and his team in Penang to drive Penang forward and become better.
“We need people who promote unity and bring people together,” Sim said.
Chow said the state government has done its level best to ensure good governance for the past 15 years.
“We have done our best to the best of our ability to ensure your mandate is achieved through good policy and management.
“Whatever we have done and plan to do are for Penang to rise to the next level of development. And it is important to ensure that the people benefit from the development of the state,” he said in his speech.
Chow praised his team in Penang, which includes caretaker state Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain and Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, for their hard work in improving the livelihood of the community in Penang.
“The statistics speak for themselves.
“Penang is among the top investment and trading states in Malaysia. In addition, we also achieved the highest gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 13.1% last year (2022).
It was reported that Penang’s performance tops the list, followed by Selangor (11.9%), Pahang (10.8%) and Kuala Lumpur (9.2%). These four states also exceeded the national GDP average of 6.9% last year.
