THE recent strong wind phenomenon that weny viral on social media is common at Teluk Bayu Beach in Bayan Lepas, according to the locals.
After a video clip was circulated, Buletin Mutiara conducted a check and managed to interview traders and beachgoers in the area.
According to Rosnida Che Anwar, 35, this phenomenon is usual, especially during the occurrence of south wind.
“This phenomenon has nothing to do with the currents, but it is due to the strong wind.
“When the strong wind occurs, the waves automatically become huge,” said Rosnida, who sells prawn noodles.
She advised beachgoers to remain vigilant during their outings.
Her brother Badrul Iman Che Anwar, 25, expressed his fear that the situation could be danger if the rubbish is drifted in from the sea.
“Even the jellyfish can pose a threat if the wind is strong, as the waves will bring them in,” he said.
Baderul called on the locals and visitors to the beach to be extra careful during strong winds.
Fisherman Azmi Zainuddin said he would not hesitate to advise the kids to avoid the beach if waves were high.
