Students encouraged to pursue higher studies

A TOTAL of 100 school bags with stationeries were presented to students from low-income families as well as from various religions.

State executive councillor for Non-Islamic Religious Affairs and Social Development Chong Eng who presented the items, encouraged the recipients to pursue higher studies.

“It is important to attend school. And if there is any problem in doing so, perhaps you can always seek for help.

“Do well in your studies and enter higher learning institutions,” said Chong Eng during the school bags and stationery presentation ceremony at Queen Street Mariamman Temple recently.

Chong Eng said it is important for us to live with brotherly love as we are multiracial as well as a multireligious community

The ceremony was held in conjunction with the celebration of the ‘Navarathiri Festival’ which just ended last week.

Chong Eng also lauded the Queen Street Mariamman Temple for actively engaging in community-building work.

Apart from that, Chong Eng said the Penang Harmony Corporation (Harmonico) was initiated by the state government to ensure the community lives in peace and harmony.

“We are a multiracial as well as a multireligious community, so it is important for us to live with brotherly love.

“Our respective religion teaches us to respect each other’s religions,” she added.

Also present was Queen Street Mariamman Temple chairman Kumareson Darmalingam
