Actor Sugeindhiran will be playing the ‘Muthu’ character in his upcoming drama titled Skuad JPJ 2.0.
Scheduled for airing on RTM TV2 in April 2024 this year, the drama is said to be driven purely to create awareness among Malaysian road users.
It is directed by Mohd Fazli Yahya (Pali Yahya).
Star-studded casts like Aliff Aziz, Meor Mohd, Trisha Ooi, Erin Shahira, Rashdan Baba & Amyza Aznan will feature alongside Sugeindhiran for this 13-episode drama.
The main producers are Mache All Star Sdn Bhd and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Malaysia.
During an interview with Buletin Mutiara recently, Sugeindhiran revealed that Skuad JPJ 2.0 will be a special drama as it will cover elements of not only action but also love and comedy.
“For instance, as Muthu, I will play the role of a nerdy socially awkward Tamil hacker, and we have done magic with this role, whereby, everyone will be able to witness the resemblance of olden days Malaysian Indian actors speaking Tamil mixed with the Malay language in Malay dramas.
“Each character has a unique storyline in this season 2 drama, and being a drama that is based on a government body in Malaysia, a lot of research was done before the shooting, and we were specially trained by JPJ team themselves” Sugeindhiran said.
The 35-year-old Penangite, a local celebrity emcee & passionate actor by nature, said that the entire crew would spend 12 to 14 hours daily shooting, and the main shooting spots were done around Putrajaya, KL and others.
When asked about the challenges he faced while filming this drama, Sugeindhiran said getting into the JPJ operation mode and memorising the various acts were among the hardest tasks.
“When in JPJ operation mode, we had to be in full uniform monitoring the traffic and the road users at roadblocks under the hot sun.
“Memorising the acts was a challenge too because we are dealing with real policies here, and we must ensure we don’t spill the wrong things in front of the camera.
“Also, it is important for us, as actors and actresses, to read and anticipate the situations well, and most importantly, to be aware of the script, especially if any changes occur,” he added.
In a related development, Sugeindhiran said since the story revolves around the friendship between friends, teamwork was an essential quality that we had to carry throughout the entire shooting.
Sugein’s past experiences, especially in his acting gigs, as well as helming the role of the vice president of the Music and Drama Club at Penang Free School, has played a key role in shaping his career as an actor.
