SWEDISH R&B singer Maher Zain is holding his first ever concert in Penang on March 16.
State Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the concert is part of Maher’s Malaysia Tour 2019; and organised by the New Catalysts Resources (NCR) and My Events International.
“The concert is also supported by my office, ‘Penang Exco for Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage’ (PETACH).
“This will be Maher’s first concert in Penang. His tour will begin at Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur, followed by Johor, Penang, and subsequently Sabah.
“Penang is chosen as the venue for the northern region,” Yeoh told a press conference at Komtar today.
Yeoh said that the concert was in line with the state’s aspiration to position Penang as the destination of choice for events.
“We have recently concluded a very successful concert by renowned singer-cum-songwriter Joker Xue, who was in Penang for his ‘Skyscraper’ tour.
“We believe that this concert will attract many tourists to Penang and will spur the state’s economy.
“Our diverse population and top-notch facilities made us an attractive place to hold events and concerts,” he said.
Yeoh said PETACH aimed at exploring new industries to benefit the state’s tourism.
“The concert industry is one of the new industries we interested to grow. We have also been working closely with the tourism players to ensure that Penang stays competitive in the tourism sector,” he said.
New Catalysts Resources (M) Sdn Bhd director Syed Yazrine Shahab said Mahen might be releasing a new song during the concert.
Syed Yazrine also said that the public could have a chance to sing with Maher during the concert.

My Events International project director Padma Viloshana Rubhen thanked the Penang government for its support.
The concert will be held from 8pm to 11pm on March 16 at Setia SPICE Arena.
