VISITORS who are looking for an exciting experience should visit the Penang Tropical Fruit Farm in Teluk Bahang from end of March to May.
Orchard owner Quah Ewe Kheng, 75, said it would be an exciting period for fruit lovers from end of March to May.
“We should be able to get the ‘jambu air’ (water apple) by end the of March this year. The trees are flowering heavily.
“By early April, we should be able to harvest our popular Fijian longan. Then, we have the wild durians in May.
“The fruits that we are looking forward to are the Fijian longan and the wild durian, where the trees are already flowering,” he told Buletin Mutiara recently.
Quah said the orchard would be promoting the wild durian fruits in May.
“Our guides will include the topic on durian in the guided tours. This will be our upcoming initiative during the durian season (from May onwards), when the wild durian fruits are available.
“We want to educate the people on the origin of durian.
“Sometimes, you may not believe that wild durian can taste that good. We did not promote the wild durian last year.
“We have three to four wild durian trees and we are getting people to graft the wild durian trees for us.
“We are also busy planting another 20 to 30 trees so that in a few years, we will have a lot of harvest to promote and educate the visitors.
“Our daily guided tour has just started after the second movement control order (MCO) was lifted.
“The guided tour is from 9am to 5pm daily,” he said.
“We do not just sell fruits. Our objective is to educate and raise awareness.
“I believe that there are many types of fruits that the people may not know how to eat,” he said.
The orchard also serves delicious delicacies where diners can enjoy their meal while taking in the beautiful scenery. Visitors can buy souvenirs and products from a shop, also located at the orchard.
