TALENT development remains a key focus for Micron Malaysia as it works to upskill its workforce to meet market demands.

Speaking to the media after a tour of its production facilities in Batu Kawan today, its vice-president and country manager Amarjit Singh Sandhu acknowledged the need to train the young generation of workforce and to enhance their skills.

“For instance, we currently have 50 to 60 interns, and we focus on developing their expertise, transforming them into better versions of themselves. This is part of their growth journey before we hire them as full-time staff in the future,” Amarjit said.

Addressing the current wave of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Amarjit highlighted the increasing demand for chips within the industry to meet market needs.

“The execution aspect is crucial in meeting market demand, and at Micron, we have consistently capitalised on this,” he explained.

Amarjit also spoke about Micron’s diverse workforce, comprising individuals from various backgrounds and ethnicities, which supports the company’s sustainability goals.

Regarding the looming threat of tariffs impacting the semiconductor industry, Amarjit noted that this is not a new challenge. He mentioned that most industry players have already adjusted their supply chains to comply with regulatory requirements.

Earlier, Amarjit briefed the media on the significant value of the AI wave, stating that Micron Malaysia has been collaborating with other multinational companies in its production efforts.
