THE Tan Jetty upgrading works are almost complete, since the works started in Oct 21 this year.

Land and District Office (northeast district) assistant engineer Nur Fariza Othman said that the Tanjong parliamentary constituency had allocated RM175,035 to upgrade the old jetty.

“The works involved replacing the decaying woods with the more durable chengal wood.

“It is now about 80% to 90% completed. We expect it to be completed around Dec 15,” she said when visiting the jetty in Weld Quay with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today.

Also present was Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen.

Gooi said he received complaints from the residents sometime in June this year.

They told him about the deplorable state of the old jetty.

Gooi said that the Tan Jetty is not only a heritage site but also a tourist attraction.

“It may pose danger to both the residents and tourists if the problem is not addressed,” Gooi said.

He thanked Chow for the allocation which could greatly benefit the people.

Chow said he was happy to receive the good news.

“I understand that it will be completed within the time frame given,” he said.
