Named after Penang-born Ong Ewe Hock, a former World No. 2 and 1998 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, the tournament’s third edition attracted 16 teams, featuring several former international players.
Coincidentally, Ewe Hock, a former World No. 2 and 1998 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, celebrated his 53rd birthday on March 14, making this tournament even more special as a tribute to his dedication to the sport.
Ewe Hock envisions the tournament as a platform to promote sports tourism while showcasing Penang’s renowned food and culture. He also plans to organise a junior tournament to nurture young talent in the sport further.
