TECH Dome Penang (TDP) in Komtar, which was established to nurture schoolchildren’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), celebrated its sixth anniversary today.
Established on July 16, 2016, TDP’s aim is to inspire children and students to become future technologists and to promote the convergence of technology, industry and people.
Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy was delighted to witness TDP’s journey over these six years.
“I am impressed with the progress of TDP as it has seen close to a million visitors, including local students, overseas students on exchange programmes, and participants for team building events.
“Penang needs a strong pool of its population with knowledge and skills in STEM to move the state forward.
“Kudos to TDP and we look forward to another year of continual progress to promote STEM for the state and the country,” said Ramasamy, who is also the TDP board chairman, at TDP this morning.
TDP chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi said they have organised more than 1,850 STEM workshops, which have benefited more than 360,000 students in the country.
“We need more technologists and engineers to lift our state to greater heights.
“I would like to thank the board of directors, partners, industry sponsors, and partner universities for the support rendered to us,” he said.
A mascot, known as TD-Bot, was also launched during the event. The mascot is aimed at attracting and sparking the children’s interest in science and technology.
