Tech Dome unveils ‘AI Horizon’ to boost innovation and education in Penang

ARTIFICIAL Intelligence (AI) is no longer just a futuristic concept – it is a transformative force reshaping businesses, industries, and daily life across Malaysia.

 

Recognising its growing impact, Tech Dome Penang, in collaboration with the Penang government, Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Penang STEM, and key industry partners, has launched a groundbreaking initiative, called the ‘AI Horizon – Shaping the Future with Penang’s Talent.’

 

This visionary programme aims to propel AI innovation and education, positioning Penang as a regional hub for smart technology and cutting-edge advancements.

 

Set to take place on Aug 8 and 9 at Setia SPICE Arena, the two-day event promises to be a dynamic convergence of technology, talent, and thought leadership.

The event will feature four key components:

1. AI Industry Pavilion – A showcase of industry leaders, startups, and trailblazers revolutionising AI.

2. AI Application Showcase – Live demonstrations of AI-driven solutions across multiple sectors.

3. AI GENIUS Competition – A battle of bright minds where young innovators compete to solve real-world challenges using AI.

4. AI Forum – A thought-provoking discussion featuring experts, policymakers, and industry leaders on the future of AI.

 

Details regarding participating companies and additional activities will be announced in the coming weeks.

 

Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang underscored AI’s crucial role in driving Malaysia’s digital economy.

 

“AI is no longer just a future technology – it is a present reality shaping how we work, live, and interact.

 

“This programme (AI Horizon) will catalyse Malaysia’s AI ecosystem by enhancing public awareness and fostering collaboration between the government, industry, and academia,” Chang said in his speech during the launching ceremony of the programme at Setia SPICE Convention Centre today.

 

He also highlighted Penang’s legacy as a high-tech powerhouse, particularly in manufacturing, electrical and electronics, and automation.

 

“This initiative ensures that Penang remains at the forefront of innovation and technology.

 

“The state government’s commitment to expanding STEM education, strengthening the innovation ecosystem, and fostering public-private collaboration is commendable.

 

“With the collective efforts of industry partners and agencies, Penang will remain highly competitive in this AI-driven era,” he added.

 

Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo echoed this sentiment, noting that Penang is already a leader in technological advancement and has the potential to become a major AI hub on the global stage.

“We have engaged with countries like India and Japan, and they have pledged to collaborate with us in driving AI innovation.

 

“This cross-border exchange will fuel breakthroughs and position Penang as a key player in the AI revolution,” Jagdeep said.

 

Tech Dome chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi assured that the initiative would elevate AI innovation in Penang with the support of industry leaders and state agencies.

 

The event’s launch was also attended by MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran.
