TEMASYA Deepavali 2018@ Butterworth Art Walk was one of the celebrations in Bagan that highlighted the message of Deepavali that light triumph over darkness, and good over evil.
This celebration also involved the Deepavali Open House organised by the Bagan Dalam assemblyman M. Satees with a joy and fun.
Various programmes, activities and competitions were held throughout the day on Nov 17 from 9am to midnight.
Among the components of the Temasya Deepavali 2018 were mega yoga by Clairessa, demonstration of preparing muruku, making of kolam, painting of 2,000 henna hands, kollywood kids model search competition, music band performance, bollydance fitness, dance performances by SMK Convent Butterworth and Deepavali dinner.
Satees said Temasya Deepavali was one of the initiatives to rejuvenate Butterworth Town towards a more vibrant and liveable city.
“I’m happy to be hosting this evening as we celebrate the Deepavali Open House. I’m just overwhelmed by the large multiracial turnout at this festival. Particularly, I can see that 80% of the people are from different races – Malays and Chinese- who took part actively in the activities.
“We wanted to make things interactive and fun for everyone. I believe that we all are one community even though we are from different religion. We should stand together,” Satees emphasised.
Many cultural dance troupes gave dazzling performances. It was a spectacle for the crowd, who was also treated to an array of delicious local delicacies.
