Thai Royal visits Penang

A ROYAL entourage from Thailand made a one-day visit to Penang on Oct 1 and on hand to receive them at the Penang International Airport were Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng, State Secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus and other state dignitaries.

Led by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the entourage visited several historical sites in Penang including the State Museum, Fort Cornwallis and Convent Light Street.

Lim later hosted a hi-tea which was attended by several state exco members, assemblymembers, Penang island mayor Datuk Patahiyah Ismail and other state officials.

Princess Sirindhorn was born on April 2, 1955, and is the third child of King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit.

She currently teaches at the history department of the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, where she is the nominal head of the department.

In addition to Thai, she also speaks fluent English, French, and Chinese and is currently studying German and Latin.
