PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to fairness, democracy, and openness, emphasising that the pursuit of a better Malaysia is a continuous effort that transcends political affiliations.
Speaking at the Phoenix Friendship Association Malaysia (Penang chapter) Chinese New Year gathering today, the Chief Minister acknowledged the contributions of past leaders, noting that their dedication has laid a strong foundation for the country.
He stressed that while different leaders may take up the mantle, the shared goal remains the same – ensuring just governance, fair law enforcement, and progressive policies.
Reflecting on his more than 40 years in politics, Chow credited the media and public discourse for shaping his journey.
He highlighted the Penang government’s achievements after over a decade in power.
“While there are differences between the ruling and Opposition parties, the principles of good governance must always be upheld and carried forward.”
Reaffirming Malaysia’s strength as a multi-ethnic nation, Chow urged for unity through inclusive policies.
“Our diversity is our strength. We must embrace it,” he asserted.
Addressing the rapid advancements in technology, the Chief Minister stressed the need for adaptability, warning that clinging to outdated frameworks could lead to stagnation.
Chow concluded by expressing his belief that Malaysia’s future lies in continuous progress, innovation, and a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring a better and more peaceful tomorrow for all.
Among those present was Phoenix Friendship Association Malaysia (Penang chapter) chairman Datuk Lean Yee Yong.
